Overview Document
I am hoping with my time here at Muhlenberg to double major in English and Creative Writing and Public health. However, my main passions lie in writing, most especially creative pieces that shed light on individuals, humanity, and the happenings in places we don’t often open our eyes to. Along with that I would also love to live in Boston Massachusetts in the future. Preferably in a pretty apartment in the city with a cat, an expansive bookshelf, and a job at a paper. I did my search on Indeed and looked for Journalism jobs in Boston and found a position as a staff writer/communications officer at Harvard University. I would not mind working at a college or university, college students are our future, they will change the world and shake the ground, I want to cultivate that, put their words out there as well as my own. This job is meant for someone who cares about the importance of stories and entails many different aspects. Such as reporting for the different Harvard channels like their paper the Harvard Gazette. There is an emphasis on multimedia story telling that is not only meant for the confines of the university but also for an outward audience. There is an imbedded curiosity maintained in this position that is always looking to show the world more through a creative lense. Stories are meant to be engaging and reporting on relevant issues and events. The job is also Hybrid work which is absolutely perfect for me because I am both a home body and someone who likes going out from time to time.

Dear Hiring Manager,
I am applying for the staff writer/communications officer position I found through my search on Indeed for writing-intensive jobs. I was so pleased to come across this job that holds so much for my passions and skills. I have a bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing and Public Health from my time at Muhlenberg College. I have always loved words and their power to cultivate change, broaden minds, and spark passion. Communication is a skill I hold from my experience in Journalism and my time studying Public Health. I have a deep love of writing and creation, of making stories that could impact someone’s life. I have written numerous pieces in my college’s paper, The Weekly, that focus on the individual and storytelling, and are curious in nature. I have also won numerous creative writing awards in Interscholastic tournaments. Furthermore, I spent several months interning at The Philadelphia Inquirer, and I have experience working in a journalistic environment, writing about current events, and committing to deadlines.
Regarding communication, I have acquired solid experience with interviews and active listening, as my public health major requires deep care for the community and the well-being of humanity through understanding and problem-solving. Words catalyze change, information is power, and students are the future. These are reasons I would bring intense care and priority to bettering the school environment for students through my writing and love for research. Concerning research, this job looks for one who can write and conduct research on findings in different disciplines at the university, as well as science and medicine, in which I obtained high skills with my published research on enhancing disease prevention.
It is highly important for me to get individuals informed and aware. With my experience writing for a paper, I plan on creating a creative and inclusive environment with my writing to touch on happenings on campus that are often overlooked or not fully paid attention to.
I also have two years of experience working in a retail job, specifically in customer service. I love working with people and problem-solving, but I can also listen, let voices be heard, and do something tangible with what they say. Overall, I have a high passion and skill for writing, working with others, and reporting on the here and now. I also love time management, and I am not afraid to follow a strict schedule. I also bend things around if need be. I am thrilled to be applying for this position, which entails so many factors that align with my skill sets and interests. You can contact me most easily via my mobile phone: 484-773-2342. I appreciate your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Amal Khdour
